MUS[IC] PICK #3

Chop Suey – System of a Down
Suggested by Kenneth Tan.

It was between this or Friday – Rebecca Black (good one, Tuan). I guess we can shelve the front seat-back seat dilemma for another day of the week.  Keep sending us your songs, folks!  Thanky kindly.

Howdy, Heidi!

HELLO RHO RHO!

My name is Heidi Pao and my partner Kevin (who is currently in China) and I are the Corresponding Secretaries of Iota Phi. I am a third-year Human Development/Man. Econ major at UC Davis, come fall. I love learning about people and how they interact, but I’m still not so sure what I want to do after college. I enjoy swimming, especially during the ridiculously hot Davis weather!

First, let me just say how completely excited I am and how awesome this blog/newsletter is! It’s great that we’re reaching out to our brothers, since Alpha Phi Omega is such a huge organization. Props to Rho Rho!

My favorite part of Iota Phi is the service and the wonderful people I met. Service has always been a passion, since I joined Interact Club in high school. It felt weird not doing service in college, and I didn’t really know where to sign up, so I decided to try out Alpha Phi Omega. I can say it has been one of the best decisions I have made in college. My closest friends are now in Alpha Phi Omega, and it really feels like a second family.

I’ve visited some of the other chapters in Section 4, and I always find it so interesting that other chapters run their meetings so differently! It’s really cool how we’re all so unique, but striving toward the same goal of improving leadership, friendship and service. Even though Rho Rho is so far from Iota Phi, I have always wanted to meet all the chapters and other brothers. I’m hoping that IPhi brothers will be able to road-trip down to SoCal this summer, so we can meet you! See you soon! :)

iLFS,
Heidi Pao

What it do, Kevin Luu?!

Kevin "makes peace" with turtle at Beihai.

A message from our first-ever HIMYB correspondent!

HELLO RHO RHO! Greetings from Beijing, China! My name is Kevin Luu and I’m one of the two corresponding secretaries in Iota Phi. I’m an incoming third year double majoring in International Relations and Japanese. I like to listen to hip hop music and watch basketball. I also enjoy learning foreign languages which is why I’m majoring in Japanese and studying Mandarin in China at the same time.

What do I like most about Iota Phi?! We are definitely one of the largest chapters out there and it might seem easy to get lost in the mix. However, it’s great meeting so many people that come from so many walks of life. It’s really amazing. I could say the absolute best friends that I could call family in Davis are in Iota Phi. I also enjoy going out to other chapters to meet IC bros. I’ve visited mainly chapters in Section 4 but I would LOVE to visit Rho Rho one day. It’s on my to-do list before I graduate. Meeting IC bros always makes me happy. Despite not knowing each other before, we still feel a connection. I really like that. I hope you guys feel that way too!

Before I go, I just want to say that I am ecstatic to be writing this right now. It’s truly an honor for me to do this for our little bro chapter. I hope this is the start of many things to come for I-Phi and Rho Rho. I promise I will visit you guys sooner or later and hopefully you guys will do the same for us! (:

iLFS,
Kevin Luu

Sky High // Iota Phi

A little mood music.

Sky High Sports – Sacramento
11327 Folsom Blvd. #160, Rancho Cordova, CA 95742
Saturday, July 16th, 11:00am-5:00pm

Buzz Aldrin said in an interview, “‘Feeling a sense of relief when finally landing on the surface of the moon’ is a gross understatement.”  So, what was it like, landing on the moon?

We probably will never know.  BUT there is no feeling comparable to that when landing on the surface of trampolines:  The sheer adrenaline rush that fills you with wonder and awe as you bounce off of spring-loaded walls.  The familiar touch of a dodgeball as you tearfully send it off in mid-air.  The aggressive, but welcoming, embrace of another dodgeball as it is sent toward you.

You may ask yourself, “Am I prepared for this kind of fun?”  Let us assure you that you will not be alone.  Our loyal brothers from the North at Iota Phi and Section 4 will be at your side every bounce of the way.

Harry Potter Part 7-Part 2-Part-… // Iota Phi

Thanks for leaving us in 3D.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 Premiere – Brenden Vacaville 16
531 Davis Street, Vacaville, CA 95688-4632
Thursday, July 14th, 11:59pm

Until the super-special, extra-magic, Neville-packed extended edition with “never-before-seen footage” is announced to arrive to theaters in 2021, it is safe for us to assume Harry Potter is leaving usforever.

Indeed, as the posters, billboards and tellies everywhere warn us:  “It All Ends.”  The magic.  The adventure.  The nose-less villains.  Blimey!  All the things you hold dear about the beloved childhood series will soon come to an end.  Lucky for you, you can start purchasing tickets to view the final part of the final chapter and see what becomes of our brave hero, Emma Watson.

What’s more, you can enjoy the final part of the final chapter in a special theater with ICs from our big brother chapter, Iota Phi!  These brilliant chaps are bloody stoked to make your acquaintance!  To earn an exclusive theater, they must send 50 attendees.  At the moment, they are at 36…methinks you know what to do.
